Black Shuck

about

Black Shuck is a legendary black hound who supposedly haunted the marshes of coastal Suffolk. This is my take on the story. Rootsy vibe.

lyrics

Over the marshes in the misty night
Comes a savage hound with eyes burning bright
He hunts and he hungers from his home in hell
With an earth shaking growl and a deathlike smell

Born in the light of a blood red moon
You’ll hear him howl and all too soon
His fetid breath will be at your door
And a crimson liquid splashed across your floor

Chorus
It’s too late for you because you’ve been found
By Black Shuck, the unholy hell hound

The priest and the people were all at prayer
As Shuck crept out from his fiery lair
He broke down the door and he scorched the wood
And struck down the priest on the spot where he stood

The congregation screamed and they turned to run
But there’e nowhere to hide when the black hound comes
Like a charcoal fox in a chicken shed
He dealt his justice until all were dead

Chorus

So learn from me people, stay in at night
Don’t walk on the marshes in the pale moonlight
And you’d better make sure that you lock your doors
So you don’t meet your end at the black dog’s claws

If you see a huge shadow on the boggy plain
Turn and run if you want to see home again
You’ll need lungs of steel and a ton of luck
If you want to avoid being caught by Black Shuck
