about

A song inspired by a book of the same name by Katherine May and the experience of having Covid and associated medical issues in 2020

lyrics

Settle down into the comforting depths of your hinterland
Traverse the coldest recesses of your heart and mind
Nestle inside, down where you hide all the burgeoning frost of your doubt
Curl up so small in a comforting ball you are wintering

See all the icicles hanging down frosty and menacing
Formed of the ice of the bad stuff that happened before
Watch as they melt, all that you felt coming back to you frozen and clear
Soar till they’re gone, flying south like a swan, you are wintering

Sleeping alone in the daytime
Wondering when it will end
Rise from the frost with the time that you lost you are wintering

Wrapping yourself in the protecting trappings of wintertide
Keeping the worldly temptations of warmth far at bay
Forget the sun till your winterings done, it will greet you again in the spring
Lie dormant and still through the seasonal chill, you are wintering

Sleeping alone in the daytime
Wondering when it will end
Rise from the frost with the time that you lost you are wintering, you are wintering, wintering, wintering (all that winters is not cold, all that winters is not cold)
